Selling Us Out, Along with Terri Schiavo
Here is a very, very telling story from former Congressman Martin Frost on Senator Frist's sellout of religious conservatives in, of all things, the Terri Schiavo case. It discusses the now-famous exchange on the Senate floor between Sen. Frist and Sen. Levin over the meaning of the law Congress passed in March of this year, supposedly to assist Terri Schiavo's parents. The federal courts relied heavily on this floor exchange to deny relief to the Schiavos.
Read the story, which includes the key portion of the exchange between Frist and Levin, and you tell me what you think is going on.
I've said it before and I will say it again -- religious conservatives cannot and should not trust the current Republican Party leadership. Whether through criminal negligence, or by deliberate strategy (and I have good reason to suspect the latter -- some of the evidence for this appears below on this blog), the Republican Party leadership is selling us out.
